19 staff member from Japanese Association Health Information System (JAHIS) came to Taiwan and studied the local health insurance system. On Sep. 11, they visited Taipei Branch of Bureau of National Health Insurance and learned how residents, the group insurance applicants and medical agencies utilize the information system through the website. On the same day, the Bureau made a briefing to these guests in the Conference Room on the seventh floor. Afterwards, related information systems like medical expenditure applications, PACS medical images transmitting, and health insurance procedures via the internet were presented to them. Staff members from JAHIS were impressed by the currently run health insurance system and the medical information management system; they issued quite a few questions in the process and opinions were therefore mutually exchanged. In the end, they went to visit the Service Center and observed the procedure of National Health Insurance IC Card application, production, and the related information system. They ended their visit at 5:30 p.m. Through the Seminar of officers of Department of Health, Saudi Arabia, held by Institute for Information Industry, 13 managers from Department of Health, Saudi Arabia came to visit Taipei Branch of Bureau of National Health Insurance. General Manager Ms. Tsai acted as the hostess and presented the guests with gifts of local taste: cups made of pottery. The itinerary of visitors included an introduction of the promotion towards National Health Insurance IC Card by General Manager Ms. Tsai, and a briefing of Taipei Branch of Bureau of National Health Insurance by Secretary Ms. Kao. Practical investigation of the application of medical expenditure, procedures, and counter services of Service Center were also arranged. The entire process was with a successful flow by the two parties utilizing English as the way of communication. Dec. 7, 2006, Dr. Reda Mohammed Khalil and his wife came and visited our district bureau joint service center and IC Cards Production center. Dr. Reda Mohammed Khalil is the Assistant Deputy Leader at Dept. of Health Regulation and Policy in Saudi Arabia. In this trip, the couple was accompanied by Mr. Kuo Yu Shan, Executive Officer of Department of West Asian Affairs, Ms. Gu Hai Yang, Vice Chairperson of Information Engineering Institute, Institute for Information Industry, and Engineer Mr. Chu Shuan Hung On Dec. 6, 2006, eight middle-ranked managers responsible for underwriting affairs fromNational Health Insurance Corporation of South Korea ¡]NHIC¡^visited our Taipei branch and observed issues related to IC card application, customer service system, and policies related to the assistance of the disabled, poor and the elderly. Our branch Manager, Ms. Tsai Shu Ling met the delegation in person, and our Secretary Ms. Kuo Shin Pei did the briefing for the delegation. Afterwards, there was an interaction session which further details were offered, leading to the exchange of experiences. The entire process was more than satisfactory.
