The reimbursement regulation    

In case the beneficiaries, under emergency, need to be treated immediately or to give birth in non-contracted medical care institutions, the Group Insurance Units may, with the support of the relevant certification documents, apply to the Insurer for reimbursement of the medical expenses.

Application for reimbursement shall be submitted within six months after the date of ambulatary care and/or discharge of admission and/or baby delivery. Otherwise, it will be rejected.

Duplicated payments in cash of benefits under NHI program for the same incident is not allowed.

  • Overseas Medical Reimbursement
    • How to apply for o verseas medical reimbursements?
      1. Pay the overseas medical fees in full first.
      2. Within 6 months after inpatient discharge or outpatient visit date.

    • The following documents should be attached
      1. Medical reimbursement application form.
      2. The original receipts of medical service payments and detailed statements.
      3. Diagnostic reports or related papers. (If written not in English, Chinese translation needed.)
      4. The photocopies of passport with departure/arrival stamps of Taiwan Custom.

  • The standards of reimbursements
    • For medical reimbursement cases taking place outside the NHI covered areas, if the occurred date is between January to March 2007, the maximum reimbursement quota for outpatient department visit is NT$1499 per time, for emergency is NT$2695 per time, for hospitalization is NT$6314 per day, for renal dialysis is NT$4100 per case, for childbirth is NT$36086 per case. The insurer will not reimburse the excessive part.

  • Notice:
    • Starting from April 1, 2006 (hospital release date), when an insured applies for a refund for prepaid medical expenses for at least 5 days of hospitalization in China, and a BNHI branch considers that the case requires verification, before the application can be accepted, a concerned party must have the required medical verification documents (including original medical expense receipts, itemized expense lists, diagnostic statements, and other verifying documents)
    • The first notarized at a notary office in China, and must apply bearing the original notarization certificate to the Straits Exchange Foundation (phone: 02-2713-4726; http://www.sef.org.tw) for certification, and must complete certification documents.
